Paragraph 1 – Pure PC characteristics
Pure PC (polycarbonate) offers extremely high strength and rigidity, good heat resistance, and excellent dimensional stability, making it suitable for structural components that bear mechanical loads or operate at elevated temperatures. However, its melt viscosity is very high, resulting in poor flowability and difficult injection molding, which reduces production efficiency. Additionally, the material is relatively brittle and has poor resistance to stress cracking, making it prone to fracture under internal stresses. Moreover, the cost of pure PC is high, significantly increasing the overall product price if used alone.
Paragraph 2 – Pure ABS characteristics
Pure ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) excels in processing: its melt flow is outstanding, enabling easy injection molding of complex, thin‑walled parts. It also has good toughness, a high‑gloss surface finish, and is easy to coat, plate, or otherwise secondary‑process. Its cost is relatively low. On the downside, ABS has noticeably inferior heat resistance, with a lower continuous service temperature, and its strength and rigidity are far below those of PC. It also performs poorly in outdoor weathering, tending to age and become brittle over time.
Paragraph 3 – Overall advantages of PC+ABS alloy
PC+ABS alloy, through polymer blending, successfully combines the beneficial properties of both materials: it retains the high strength, rigidity, and thermal resistance of PC while incorporating the excellent processability and toughness of ABS. This effectively overcomes PC’s processing difficulties and brittleness, and simultaneously elevates ABS’s heat resistance and mechanical strength. As a result, the alloy provides the mechanical performance and thermal stability required for product housings, while also ensuring manufacturing efficiency and cost control – achieving an ideal “rigidity‑plus‑toughness” balance. This is precisely why PC+ABS has become one of the most widely used enclosure materials in consumer electronics, home appliances, automotive parts, and many other fields.
